Now that January is coming to a close and the craziness of the new year is mostly behind us, it might be the time that you start thinking about the little (or big) projects around the house that you’ve been wanting to do. When it comes to decorating your home, it’s a really personal thing, but for some of us, it can be quite overwhelming to know where to start. Like with anything that’s out of our comfort zone, we might like to do a little research first, before diving in. That’s where Decorate by Holly Becker & Joanna Copestick, really comes into its own.
This book was a gift that I picked out for my birthday a couple of years back. Sometimes I like to buy a book that I know I will want some time in the future, even if I don’t want to dig in right away. (I’m not the only one who does that am I?!) It’s been sitting on my shelf for a while and I decided that I’d have a good look though for some ideas of what I can do with this house and for the home that I’m quietly dreaming of creating in the future. You can never start dreaming too early ;)
What I found was a book full to the brim of inspiration and ideas on decorating your home as well as some great tips for those of us who are just starting out. It’s a friendly book that explains some interior design theory in a way that doesn’t make you feel like you need an interior design degree to understand what they’re talking about.
It talks about the different design styles, and talks about how you might find yours. You won’t be surprised to learn that I love the mid century modern, if you’ve ever looked through my pinterest boards. ;) It also gives you ideas room by room, which is fantastic to flick to if you’re just doing one room for the moment. The photography in the book is beautiful and at first I thought it might be more of a coffee table book, it can really be both informative and for display!
It also covers the finishing touches like mirrors and lighting and even a section on cushions (who doesn’t love cushions?) that can help you if you’re feeling overwhelmed by your options. What I think I really like most is that you can flick to the section you want and get what you’re looking for, or you can take your time and read it like a traditional book. The sections go well together and though I don’t think I’ll ever be a big fan of floral, I like that they have included that so others can do it well.
If you’re thinking of learning a bit about the design side of decorating your home or are looking to have a go yourself, you might really enjoy this book like I did. You can grab your own copy from Amazon, or from a good bookshop near you.
I can’t wait to get started with making some of my design ideas a reality around the home. Do you have any home design projects in mind this year?
I’m an Amazon affiliate. I will make a little money if you choose to buy through the link. I will no doubt put it into more awesome books to share with you. x
