Gorgeous Homewares Supporting a Great Cause

By Dannielle on August 27, 2015

*I am a blog ambassador for Oxfam Australia

A little while back I was invited with some other bloggers to hear about what Oxfam Australia do and the different parts of their organisation. I have known that Oxfam have been around for a long time, but I didn’t really know about all that they do. One area that really caught my eye, was how they work with fair trade organisations and small makers overseas to assist them in creating an income for their families. They do this by buying their products and working with them to develop products that will sell well. How cool is that?!

The products are so lovely, that I asked to borrow some of them to photograph myself and highlight some that you might not have seen before. The quality is amazing and I have to say I was a bit sad to give them back and they are now firmly on my (ever growing) wish list! The new catalogue launches today and I wanted to share some of the lovely pieces they’ve got for Spring!

Need an excuse to have a friend around for a cuppa, some cake and a good chat? Showing off these spotty homewares is a great excuse in my book! They are made by artisans in Vietnam!

The spotty cake stand ($79.95) has a sweet peony to accompany the spots. The mugs come in a set of 2 ($29.95) with the wave pattern on one and the peony on the other, as do the gorgeous plates ($34.95)!

The ceramic cups (in the centre, $8.95ea) are also just so cool, they come from Nepal and have the look of a slightly crushed tin can! (Products sourced from Nepal are actively assisting the Nepalese people to recover from the earthquakes that happened earlier this year).

There’s nothing quite like having a good look for a new cake recipe to try and this The Global Bakery cookbook ($34.95), with delicious recipes from all over the world! The spotty espresso cup (set of 2, $29.95) and plate (set of 2, as above) are spot on for taking a break! And don’t forget their delicious chocolate($4.50)!

If you love a good homemade pizza, then you’ll also love this plantation teak pizza board ($39.95) that is made from rainforest alliance certified plantation teak from Guatemala! It has a lovely feel to it and makes me want to try making my own pizza from scratch! (Rolling pin is my own)

If you’re looking for something pretty to keep your everyday jewellery in, then this Thimi green leaf dish ($16.95) that’s made in Nepal using traditional pottery techniques would be just the thing! It could also be a soap dish, if that’s more your style! (Jewellery and accessories my own)

Anyone for cupcakes? I spotted these super cute cupcake coasters ($34.95) and cupcake dessert forks ($34.95) and I knew that I needed to make some cupcakes to go with them! How perfect would they be for anyone who has a love of all things cupcake?! They are made in India.

The Celadon dip dishes in blue ($9.95) and in green ($9.95) are perfect for for dips, salt or pepper or even sweets! They have stunning designs inside and out and are made in Thailand! The spotty plates are the same as above.

If coasters and dessert forks aren’t nearly enough cupcake-y goodness, then they also have a cupcake pot holder (on sale at $10/regularly $14.95, also made in India) which makes the perfect excuse to bake some fresh cupcakes to match! Makes an awesome gift too!

Need somewhere to keep toys or blankets? These collapsible baskets ($16.95) are ace! They work well with the top half popped out and also work well at half size! They come in a variety of colours and are made in Vietnam!

The sweet sock monkey ($39.95) is also available from Oxfam Shop, this one was given to me, but each one is unique and you can find out more about the maker on the card that comes with your monkey! They are made in South Africa.

Not only are all these items all beautifully made, but they also have something a little extra special about them because we get to know where they are made and that in purchasing them, you not only get something awesome, but you help someone create an income for their family. I’ve added Oxfam Shop to my list of places to find the perfect gift (or something for myself) and I can’t wait to pick out some great gifts.

Which of these is on your wish list?

*I am a blog ambassador for Oxfam Australia. This is an unpaid role. I love the organisation and what they are trying to achieve. Particularly how they are assisting women to create sustainable incomes so that they can support their families and build a better life, as it’s what so many of us aim to do for our own families. I received the sock monkey as part of attending the workshop. As always I only share what I think you’ll love too.
