Today I wanted to share a fun DIY of a gift that I made recently for my cousin’s birthday! A sweet and simple candy/lolly “fruit sundae”. This one is definitely not for those who’ve quit sugar!
What you’ll need:
- A Plastic (or glass) Sundae Glass I got mine from KMart for $2
- 2 Packets of Wonka Runts (6oz/170g – you only need 1.25 to 1.5 packets) These were from KMart for $2.50 each
- 1 Packet of Marshmallows (you’ll only need a handful or two from the packet) These were from Woolies for $1.49 for 250g pack
- 2 Straws (for looks) I just used two I already had from a pack I got at ikea
- Cellophane to wrap
First make sure the sundae glass is clean, they can get pretty dusty on the shelves, and tip one whole pack of Wonka Runts into the sundae glass.
Next, add the two straws down one side, spaced a bit apart say two fingers apart. Using the candy/lollies to hold them in place. Then carefully tip in about a quarter or so of the second packet – so there’s about 3cm/1in of space at the top of the glass.
Add in marshmallows until you’ve filled the space and have just a few sitting above the top of the glass so it looks bubbly. I think I used a handful or two. Place on cellophane and pull the cellophane up and fasten at the top, being careful not to damage your straws. I forgot to buy cellophane so I used brown paper – it wasn’t as pretty but the gift inside was! Will remember the cellophane next time!
And voila! A candy fruit sundae that’s super easy to make and cost less than $10! My cousin (Ms 17) loved it! I got my inspiration from this pinterest pin which leads back to this site. I changed it up a bit as I’m not a hot glue gun owner, and I thought this was a bit more me. You could adapt it to have bigger lollies (so you don’t have to get so many) or just fill it entirely with marshmallows for a fun way to present them!
I think it could be good for those secret santa gifts or when you have to donate something for a raffle. I love an experiment that works out the way you hoped it would! I’m really happy with the result! As was Ms 17 who couldn’t wait to start eating them!
Have you ever made one of these? How did it go? I’d love to hear!
