Today’s fun activity as part of the 9 Fun Ways to Create a Happy Home series is really about doing less and just revelling in being at home and taking it easy. You might think I’m bonkers for adding this the day before Christmas, but it might just be the perfect time to stay home and just relax before the big day tomorrow.
What you’ll need:
- Your favourite (wearing around the house) PJs – Eveyone has these don’t they?! ;)
- Some fun movies to watch or activities that you can do
- Some treats to snack on
- Some great tunes to dance to
- An invisible leave pass to just relax for a few hours – just in case you need it
The key to this challenge is not to over think it. It’s a crazy stressful time of year, and even if wasn’t, it’s always challenging to just commit to a day of just hanging around the house doing as little of the chores as possible and just enjoying your space. There always seems to be something important that involves getting out of your PJs and leaving the house.
If you’re wondering what you can do on a PJ day, here’s a potential run down for your day:
7am: Have a lazy breakfast cereal and toast with your favourite spread and a big glass of milk (or whatever your chosen morning beverage is)
8am: Clear a space on the dining table (or your desk), lay out some old newspaper, get your craft supplies out and make something. Turn on some good tunes and just enjoy making. If you’re stuck for ideas, try making your own cards or printing off a colouring sheet and colour it in. Try not to think of your to-do list and just have fun.
10am: Head into the kitchen and prepare some pancake mix for lunch. Pop it in the fridge for lunch time and have a morning tea snack.
11am: It’s time for a dance party. Pick your favourite songs to dance to and try out your silliest moves. If you’ve got little ones, you could have a dance off and see who does the funniest moves. Something that will get everyone in a fit of giggles.
12pm: Time to cook up those pancakes, cover them in your favourite jam or spread and take the time to sit and eat them. You could have a picnic on the living room floor.
1pm: Do a little tidying of the dining room so you don’t feel overwhelmed by it later and then prepare some movie snacks. Popcorn is a favourite here and so are potato chips.
2pm: Pick a movie that everyone will love, if you are doing this at Christmas time I highly recommend any of my three favourite Christmas movies: Arthur Christmas, A Muppet Christmas Carol or Miracle on 34th St, and sit back and enjoy the movie and the treats.
4pm: After sitting still for so long it might be time for you to shake all the wriggles out with round too of your dance party or if you’re happy lounging, now might be the perfect time to read a book.
5pm: If you’re an early eater like I am, now it’s time to start preparing dinner. Make something simple yet delicious so you can keep going with your relaxed day. But if you have to get dressed now go out for family celebrations, at least you had a very chilled day. Nothing like a chill out day to help you see the happy things in life.
Evening: This is all up to you. Watch another movie or just chill out and read a book if don’t have anywhere else to be. Give your loved ones a hug and just enjoy the moment.
This may not be the way that it happens in your home, but I hope it gives you some fun ideas for a way to just relax and enjoying being home.
Do you take advantage of the PJ day? What’s your favourite thing to do on a Pj day? I’d love to hear. Tell me in the comments!

Wishing you a very Merry and Safe Christmas from my family to yours. I hope you have a wonderful and happy day that reminds you why laughter is one of the best sounds and that a smile on your face and putting your feet up even for just a minute or two is sometimes exactly what you need. Sending happy and relaxed Christmas miracles your way. (and if by chance, it’s not the happiest of days, I hope that the “normal” you thrive in returns soon) xx
