Today I wanted to share with you a fun gift idea that I think would make an awesome Christmas present. I recently made this as a raffle prize for the annual fundraiser at my Dad’s swimming club and to test it for possible family/group gifts at Christmas. Here in Australia, Christmas is in the summer time, and when is more fun to have an ice cream party than summer?! I got this idea from the lovely misadventurous maker changed it up a bit.
What you’ll need:
- Mini Waffle Cones Vanilla x4 Mine were from Woolies, I think they were in a pack of 10 or 12 (170g) $3.59
- Coloured Sprinkles & 100s and 1000s Packets x 3 I got a packet of Dollar Sweets Monster Fives and used two lots of sprinkles and one lot of 100s and 1000s from Woolies $2.19
- Fruit Tingles I used most of one packet from Woolies $1
- Marshmallows x 8 (I wanted the mini ones, but they didn’t have any) I got a pack of the large ones from Woolies $1.49
- Ice Cream Sundae cups with Wooden Spoons x4 I got a 12 pack from a SupaBuy (Dollar Store) for $3.99
- Plastic Tea Spoons x4 I got a 20 pack at Woolies for 99c
- Cellophane Bags (for pacakging up the loose items) I had some postcard size ones lying around that I originally got from The Right Invite.
- Contents List (with expiry dates) I made mine up in A5 size in Photoshop but you could do it in Word. I used 210gsm cardstock to print on
- A Box to package them in I re-used one that had been sent to me in the post and wrapped it but a white cake box would also work well
- Optional: Chocolate or Strawberry Topping, Ice Magic, Nuts, Mini M&Ms, etc.
After you’ve got all your ingredients from the shop, use the cellophane to wrap any of the items that need to be removed from their original packaging – like the waffle cones, marshmallows, fruit tingles and possibly the sprinkes and 100s and 1000s (if you didn’t buy the prepacked ones). Make sure they’re nicely sealed so they won’t come loose. Make a note of all the expiry dates before disposing of any packaging.
Write up your Contents List on the computer, including the expiry dates (so your recipients know when to enjoy it by) and print it out. I made mine A5 (half of an A4 page) with 210gsm cardstock from Officeworks. Add a pretty heading and include ‘Add your favourite ice cream for quick party fun’ or similar to the bottom of the page. You could also write who it’s from at the bottom too, so people are reminded.
Add all the items to the box, try to lay them out so the waffle cones won’t shatter and include the contents list inside the box if it’s a surprise. It wasn’t when I made this one, so I added it to the outside with some cute washi tape. Wrap it up if you like and add a gift tag, and voila! You’re gift is ready to go!
I really enjoyed making this up. I think that with the quantities you have to buy for it, it could be even more fun to make a set for more than one person or more than one family at once. If you have a big extended family like I do, this would make a great family gift. You could change the quantities to suit their family size. This could even be great as a corporate Thank You if you work in that environment. I’m undecided as to whether these will be Christmas gifts for everyone this year, but there’s a chance that some might get this. I hope they’re not reading now! ;)
Do you make gifts like this? Do you ever do a family gift rather than one each? I’d love to hear!
If you do try this, I’d love to see a photo or hear about how it went! Tweet me your pics at: @danniellecresp or instagram me at: @dannielle with the hashtag: #styleaminimakeover
