Happy Saturday! I’m back again for this week’s photo for In My Happy Home! These Saturday posts aim to be short and sweet and a little bit behind-the-scenes, so you can find out a little more about what goes on around here at HQ and in my Happy Home. You can join in too if you like. There aren’t any prompts and it doesn’t have to be a Saturday, just one thing worth taking a photo of that makes your home feel happy this week (or anytime really).
This week I wanted to share my “lucky charms” with you. Since I was 18 I have always carried around something that I would call a lucky charm, up until earlier this year it was an All Access Pass from an early 90s Smashing Pumpkins Concert that I bought for $20 in San Fransisco. I’m not sure why it became something that was lucky, it was just always in my handbag wherever I went and I loved having it with me.
When I went travelling in January, I left it behind and soon after, (again not on purpose) my lanyard from the Altitude Design Summit became my lucky charm. Making the decision to go to Alt was huge for me. It was one of the first time that I’d taken a real chance on myself as a blogger and I knew that it would be a catalyst for something big. In a way, this blog was born from attending and whilst I’m not attending in 2014, it’s on my list f0r 2015. Alt opened my eyes to the world that is blogging as a legitimate business and the supportive community that surrounds lifestyle and design blogging in the USA.
The second lanyard is from Problogger 2013 from back in September. It wasn’t my first pb event but it was the first conference in Australia where I felt like a blogger and where I was proud of this blog and where I want to take it. Problogger reminded me that there’s a support network out there for us creatives, even if we feel a little bit isolated sitting at home in front of our computer screens.
Both of these conferences changed my way of thinking about blogging and about being a business (and how to run one that works for me). These lanyards remind me of how far I’ve come and that taking the little chances on myself often pay off. I’m ready to build this blog into something that helps people bring even just a little more happiness back into their homes and allows them to see that imperfections can be a blessing not a curse.
Everyone has their own little reminders that help to keep them on track and these are mine. They live in my handbag and make me smile every time I see them. They may not be fancy, but they remind me to take chances and sometimes that’s just what I need.
So, now it’s over to you. What’s making you happy in your home this week? You can join in on Twitter (@danniellecresp) or Instagram (@dannielle) with the hashtag #inmyhappyhome or share a pic with the new facebook page or blog about it and leave your link below.
Have a lovely weekend. x
