Spring is a wonderful time of year. The grass is greener and the air feels fresh and flowers are blooming everywhere you look. With Spring comes so much colour and a lighthearted feeling that a long, cold Winter just doesn’t have. Embracing Spring and all of it’s wonderful colors is a great way to help your home feel lighter after the cold weather leaves and the sun begins to shine! We’re a month into springtime here in Australia, but sometimes it’s nice to have that reminder to really enjoy it, before the full heat of the summer arrives.
Spring is the perfect time to treat yourself by going to a florist or your local farmer’s market and pick out some beautiful fresh flowers. Tulips are gorgeous at this time of year, but you can choose any kind of flowers that take your fancy. Depending on your budget and the price you could get a couple of bunches to spread around your home.
Bring them home, cut them to size and place them either in a vase or in an old jar that fits them nicely. Find a spot in your home that needs some Spring colour and place them where they can be seen and admired. They make a great kitchen table centerpiece or even on a desk in your office or studio.
Open the curtains (or blinds) to let the lovely natural springtime sunlight in and if it’s warm enough open as many windows as you can to let the fresh air blow, (hopefully) peacefully, through the house. If you’re lucky, you might even get the sound of the birds chirping away in the trees.
It may seem overly simple to just buy some flowers and take the time to admire them, but sometimes it’s the simple things in life that bring us the most pleasure. Some colour can often make all the difference in the world to how a place looks and feels.
If flowers aren’t your thing, then adding some bright colours around your home could really make things feel that little bit more lighthearted. Spring to me, is warmer weather, pretty flowers blossoming and the chance to spend a little more time outside. You could even dust off your lawn furniture or your picnic rug and have an unplanned picnic lunch or dinner in the back yard.
Spring allows for some great memory making, in a way that the hustle and bustle of winter never seems to. It allows us to slow down a little bit and enjoy the sunshine without worrying about getting too cold. Spring is my favourite time of year. There’s just something a little special about the great days and the longer nights. Summer is coming, but for now we have great t-shirt weather, gorgeous flowers and time for slowing down.
What do you do to add a little spring to your home?
